Artist bakes up sweet works
of art by Heather Ray Karam
With the stroke of a paintbrush,
artist Christine McCrae turned blank
canvases into works of art. But
it would be McCrae's fascination
with a sweeter medium that led the
artist to trade in her paintbrushes
for pastry bags. Click

Give
homemade cookies artistic flair
By
Karen Haram, appearing in the Arizona
Daily Star and the SA Express News
She's traded her canvas for rolled-out
dough and her palette for icing
bags, but Christine McCrae is every
bit the artist she's always been.
The difference? McCrae now is producing
works of art that are as good to
eat as they are to look at.
McCrae, owner of Lily's Cookies,
makes shortbread cookies in every
shape and design. She's limited
only by her imagination, which hasn't
restricted her thus far. When a
client has an idea for a cookie
for which she doesn't have a cutter,
McCrae simply sketches the design,
turns it into a template and starts
cutting dough. Click

As seen in bRILLIANT Magazine's
Little Black Book: Christine
McCrae (see brilliantmagazine.com)
San Antonio native. She is a Pepperdine
graduate and has an MFA from the
School of the Art Institute of Chicago,
where she worked as Director for
Alice Adam Ltd., an art gallery
specializing in German Expressionist
and Bauhaus works on paper. Moved
to New York for three years and
relocated back to San Antonio after
9/11 to combine her two loves, art
and cooking. Started Lily's Cookies,
named after her beloved grandmother,
creating decorative custom cookies
for special occasions. Recently
won first place for Dessert at the
2003 Blue Star Arts and Eats and
"Best in Show" at the San Antonio
Children's Museum 8th Annual Glorious
Gingerbread Event.
LILY’S COOKIES would be privileged
to serve you at your next special
event... and help put a smile on
everyone’s face.
